1. Share about your fitness journey. What are some key milestones that are important to you?
I have always been an active child. My parents got me to try out many sports when I was little such as swimming, bowling, tennis, golf and finally sailing. The first milestone for me would be when I was drafted into the national sailing team at a young age of 13. Another milestone was winning a medal at SEA games. Having achieved such milestones in sailing, it created a drive in me to seek improvement, and to excel in my sport better.
That’s when I took an interest in sports science — there on, I started upgrading myself with personal training and other relevant certifications. I started working part time as a personal trainer while studying my degree. It was not an easy task to balance both work and studies, but I was determined to strive through.
When I started off as a trainer, I met all kinds of clients. It wasn’t an easy task, as I had to handle clients who were mostly older than me. I’m the kind of trainer who won’t stop till my client reach their goals, which we set together during the first session. It is always great to see the smiles on their faces when they attain their goals, or have family or friends tell them about changes they see in them. Clients always thank me but my reply to them always is “Pleasure to work with you; however, the effort is all yours. Continue to maintain this lifestyle as fitness isn’t temporary. It’s a lifestyle.”
2. When it comes to your personal fitness goals, what sort of attitude helps you achieve the best results?
Discipline, commitment and perseverance are what help me achieve my personal goals. There are bound to be setbacks in life, but I stand firm that as long as you are determined, nothing can hold you back.
3. How did the idea for Custom Fit arise?
We are a tight-knit group of friends, some of whom are former national athletes from various sports. We studied for degrees in Exercise and Sports Science together, and decided to apply our acquired knowledge and experiences to help every individual achieve their personal fitness goals.
